TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Before Season Start

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals New Year’s resolutions from its star players before their match day.

Entering its second season, the TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech complex seating around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match features 15 holes divided into two parts: nine holes in team play (‘Triples’) and six holes in head-to-head singles. The season includes five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded similarly to the NHL format, including bonuses for overtime.

New Year’s Resolutions from the TGL Stars

The stage brings familiar faces together on the course, and at the season’s start, TGL shares insight into its players’ resolutions, ranging from small personal goals to significant ambitions. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of visiting Starbucks or Dunkin’ each morning. The machine is ready; only the operator is missing. Billy Horschel aimed higher, seeking to become a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: ‘I don’t do that. I am just who I am,’ he said dryly—a type not needing the spotlight. Horschel was impressed: ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he laughed. Schauffele countered: ‘I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments alongside Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea though he had no resolution himself yet. Sahith Theegala kept it short and simple: ‘Stay injury-free. Don’t play badly.’ Justin Rose reflected on past failed resolutions and aims to change this year: ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
