At the turn of the year, TGL reveals the New Year’s resolutions of its star players ahead of their match day.
Entering its second season, the TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square-foot high-tech complex seating around 1,600 fans. Rather than traditional 18-hole rounds, each match features 15 holes split into two segments: nine holes of alternate shot play (‘Triples’) and six holes of direct head-to-head competition (‘Singles’). The season comprises five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded NHL-style, including bonuses for overtime.
Coffee, Character, Continuity: TGL Reflects on New Year Resolutions
This unique stage brings familiar faces together on the course, and as the new season begins, TGL offers insights into its players’ personal New Year’s resolutions. These range from small daily habits to significant personal goals. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of stopping by Starbucks or Dunkin’ every morning. The coffee machine is ready, but he still needs to learn how to operate it. Billy Horschel’s goal was broader: to become a better version of himself, especially off the golf course.
Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions
Xander Schauffele kept it brief: “I don’t do that. I’m just me,” he said dryly—a man who needs no fanfare. Horschel was impressed, laughing: “We’d all like to be Xander.” Schauffele responded sarcastically, “I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.”

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments with Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea but had yet to set his own resolution. Sahith Theegala was succinct and focused: “Stay injury-free. Don’t play poorly.” And Justin Rose? He reflected on past resolutions that didn’t stick and vowed to make this year different: “No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.”
