TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their match day.

Entering its second season, TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. The matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square-foot high-tech venue seating around 1,600 fans. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches feature 15 holes split into two parts: nine holes played in triples format and six holes contested in singles. The season includes five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs featuring semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded NHL-style, including an overtime bonus.

Coffee, Character, Continuity: TGL’s Take on New Year’s

This stage brings familiar faces together, and at the season’s start, TGL offers insight into the players’ resolutions. These range from small to significant personal goals. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of visiting Starbucks or Dunkin’ daily. The coffee machine is ready; now just learning to operate it. Billy Horschel aimed higher: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Opts Out of Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: “I don’t do that. I’m just me,” he said dryly—a type who needs no fanfare. Horschel was impressed: “We all wish we were Xander,” he laughed. Schauffele replied dryly, “I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.”

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments alongside Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but had no resolution himself yet. Sahith Theegala was concise: “Not getting injured. Not playing poorly.” Justin Rose reflected on past resolutions that didn’t stick and aims to change that this year. “No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.”
