TGL: Boston Common Golf Dominates The Bay Golf Club with Record 9-1 Victory

Boston Common Golf extends their dominance in the second TGL season, claiming the highest victory so far and leading the standings. McIlroy and Thorbjörnsen shine while The Bay struggles with jetlag and penalties.

On Monday evening, Boston Common Golf showcased their title ambitions impressively at the SoFi Center. In Match 6 of the second TGL season, the team led by Rory McIlroy swept The Bay Golf Club off the course with a 9-1 victory. With this overwhelming win, Boston climbs unbeaten (2-0-0) to first place in the SoFi Cup Standings, matching defending champion Atlanta Drive GC. For The Bay Golf Club, the defeat marks a rocky start with a 0-2-0 record.

Even Start Turns into Disaster

The match initially promised to be close, with the score tied 1-1 after two holes. However, two factors soon decided the contest: Boston’s long drives and The Bay’s penalties. The Bay lost four points to Boston after landing in the penalty area on holes 1, 5, 12, and 13. Particularly painful was losing the ‘team hole’ on hole 9, where The Bay became the first side in this TGL season to lose their own team hole when Wyndham Clark missed a birdie putt from about 1.5 meters.

McIlroy and Thorbjornson in Top Form at TGL

On Boston’s side, one highlight followed another. Rory McIlroy broke several distance records off the tee, hitting the ball 327 meters on hole 10, surpassing the previous hole record by nearly 15 meters. He also set a personal best with 326.5 meters on hole 4. McIlroy praised his young teammate after the match: \”Michael has been a fantastic addition to the team and has adapted really, really easily to this style of golf.\” Michael Thorbjornson again proved his nerves on the greens, improving his singles record to 3-0-1 and delivering crucial moments: an eagle putt from 3 meters on hole 4 to halve the hole, a birdie securing a point on hole 12, and finishing the match with an eagle putt of just under 5 meters on hole 15. Thorbjornson commented calmly: \”I’m just having a lot of fun. I don’t really think about whether a hole is worth two points (…) I just try to enjoy myself and play good golf out here.\”

Frustration and Fatigue for The Bay

It was a night to forget for The Bay Golf Club. Shane Lowry, visibly struggling with the aftermath of his travel, made no excuses but gave insight into his condition: \”I’m pretty tired (…) I spent 17 hours on planes in the last 24 hours.\” Lowry summed up the team’s mood well: \”It wasn’t great, was it? Yeah, we just didn’t play very well. We fell behind early (…) for some reason, it felt most of the evening like we were in a bad position.\” Despite the loss,
