Boston Common Golf ends its dry spell in the TGL – an eagle on the final hole decides the duel against Los Angeles Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy and his team Boston Common Golf shone for the first time on Saturday at the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) at the SoFi Center in Palm Gardens Beach, Florida, defeating the Los Angeles Golf Club. In the previous season, Boston Common Golf had not won a single TGL match but finally broke this streak. The winning team included Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjörnsen, who substituted for Australians Adam Scott and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama as they were unavailable. The Los Angeles Golf Club featured notable players Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala.
TGL: Thorbjörnsen Decides Thriller with Eagle Putt
TGL rookie Michael Thorbjörnsen clinched the tight duel with a 4.5-meter eagle putt on the last hole, securing a 7:5 victory for Boston Common Golf. Rory McIlroy commented, ‘It took a long time for Keegan and me to finally win again. Many great shots, many birdies and eagles, but also risky putts and close mistakes. It was a back-and-forth contest and was definitely fun to play.’ The match began with nine holes in the triple format, featuring six birdies, two eagles, and seven scoring holes, ending 4:4. At the 8th hole, Boston Common Golf gained two points through a hammer throw accepted by Los Angeles Golf Club, recovering a one-point deficit. Even a point gain by Los Angeles on the last triple hole was not threatening.
In the singles, the duel was initially even until Boston Common Golf took the lead from the 12th hole with Thorbjörnsen’s eagle putt. The next two holes ended tied despite hammer throws, making the score 6:5 before the final hole. Though a tie was possible, the 24-year-old confidently sank the last putt for eagle, sealing the win.

Thorbjörnsen was also the first TGL player to sink four putts over three meters in a single match, closing the gap with teammates and Ryder Cup rivals McIlroy and Bradley, significantly contributing to the full team victory at the Palm Beach State College campus.
Hammer Strategy as Key to Success
Boston Common Golf’s victory was also secured by a targeted hammer strategy yielding three extra points. ‘We adopt a slightly different approach in accepting and throwing hammers, relying more on data,’ explained Keegan Bradley. ‘Sometimes you must take risks with hammers as they can completely change the
