McIlroy Celebrates First TGL Victory with Boston Common Golf

Boston Common Golf ends their losing streak in the TGL with an eagle on the final hole against Los Angeles Golf Club.

Rory McIlroy and his team Boston Common Golf shined on Saturday at the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) at the SoFi Center in Palm Gardens Beach, Florida, defeating Los Angeles Golf Club for their first victory. Last season, Boston Common Golf had not won a single TGL duel, finally breaking that streak. Besides McIlroy, the winning team included American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjörnsen, who stepped in as a substitute for Australian Adam Scott and Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, both absent due to scheduling conflicts. Los Angeles Golf Club also featured star players: Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala.

TGL: Thorbjörnsen Decides Thriller with Eagle Putt

Only on the final hole did TGL rookie Michael Thorbjörnsen secure the tight match with a 4.5-meter eagle putt, clinching a 7:5 win for Boston Common Golf. Rory McIlroy commented, \”It took a while for Keegan and me to finally win again,\” adding, \”Lots of great shots, many birdies and eagles, but also risky putts and close mistakes. It was back and forth. Definitely fun to play.\”

The match started with nine holes in a triple format, featuring six birdies, two eagles, and points on seven holes, ending 4:4. At the 8th hole, Boston Common Golf gained two points following a hammer throw accepted by Los Angeles Golf Club, overturning their one-point deficit tactically. The point Los Angeles Golf Club earned on the final triple hole posed no further danger.

In the singles, the duel was initially balanced until Boston Common Golf took the lead at the 12th hole thanks to an eagle putt by Thorbjörnsen. The next two holes ended tied despite hammer throws, leaving Boston Common Golf ahead 6:5 before the last hole. Although a draw was still possible, the 24-year-old Thorbjörnsen confidently sank the final putt for eagle to seal the victory.

Thorbjörnsen also became the first TGL player to make four putts over three meters in a single match, closing the gap with teammates and Ryder Cup rivals McIlroy and Bradley, playing a key role in the complete team victory at the Palm Beach State College campus.

Hammer Strategy Key to Success

Boston Common Golf also secured their win through a targeted hammer strategy, earning three extra points. \”We take a slightly different approach when accepting and throwing hammers, relying
