Boston Common Golf ends its drought in the TGL with an eagle on the final hole securing victory over Los Angeles Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy and his team Boston Common Golf shone for the first time on Saturday at the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) event held at the SoFi Center in Palm Gardens Beach, Florida, defeating the Los Angeles Golf Club. In the previous season, Boston Common Golf had not managed a single win in any TGL match but finally broke this streak. Alongside McIlroy, the winning team included American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjörnsen, who stepped in as a substitute for Australian Adam Scott and Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, both of whom were unavailable due to scheduling conflicts. The Los Angeles Golf Club also featured prominent players: Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala represented the California-based team.
TGL: Thorbjörnsen Decides Thriller with Eagle Putt
The match was only decided on the last hole when TGL rookie Michael Thorbjörnsen sunk a 4.5-meter eagle putt to secure a 7-5 victory for Boston Common Golf. Rory McIlroy commented, \”It took a long time for Keegan and me to finally win again,\” adding, \”There were many great shots, birdies and eagles, but also risky putts and close mistakes. It went back and forth. Definitely a lot of fun to play.\”
The duel began with nine holes in the triple format, producing a tight 4-4 score with six birdies and two eagles across seven scoring holes. At the 8th hole, Boston Common Golf tactically erased a one-point deficit by securing two points through a hammer throw accepted by Los Angeles Golf Club and resulting birdie. Even a point gained by Los Angeles Golf Club on the last triple hole was no threat to Boston’s momentum.
In the singles play, the match remained balanced until Boston Common Golf took the lead at the 12th hole with Thorbjörnsen’s eagle putt. The next two holes ended in draws despite hammer throws, with the score 6-5 in favor of Boston before the final hole. Although a tie was still possible, the 24-year-old confidently sank the last putt for eagle, sealing the win.

Thorbjörnsen was also the first TGL player to make four putts from over three meters in a single match, closing the gap to his teammates and Ryder Cup adversaries McIlroy and Keegan Bradley, playing a crucial role in the comprehensive team victory at Palm Beach State College’s campus.
