Boston Common Golf ends its drought in the TGL – an eagle on the final hole decides the duel against Los Angeles Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy and his team, Boston Common Golf, shone for the first time on Saturday at the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) held at the SoFi Center in Palm Gardens Beach, Florida, defeating the Los Angeles Golf Club. Last season, Boston Common Golf did not secure a single victory in any TGL matchup, breaking this streak now. Alongside McIlroy, the winning team included American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjörnsen, who stepped in as a substitute for Australian Adam Scott and Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, both absent due to scheduling conflicts. The Los Angeles Golf Club featured prominent players as well: Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala represented the California team.
TGL: Thorbjörnsen Decides Thriller with Eagle Putt
It was only on the final hole that TGL rookie Michael Thorbjörnsen secured the tight duel with a 4.5-meter eagle putt, clinching a 7-5 victory for Boston Common Golf. Rory McIlroy commented, \”It took a long time before Keegan and I finally won again,\” adding, \”Many great shots, many birdies and eagles, but also risky putts and narrow misses. It went back and forth. It was definitely fun to play.\”
The contest started with nine holes in the triple format, producing six birdies, two eagles, and points on seven holes, resulting in a 4-4 tie. At the eighth hole, Boston Common Golf gained two points through a hammer throw accepted by the Los Angeles Golf Club and a resulting birdie, tactically leveling their one-point deficit. The point earned by Los Angeles Golf Club on the last triple hole posed no further threat.
The singles matches remained balanced initially until Boston Common Golf took the lead starting on the twelfth hole with an eagle putt by Michael Thorbjörnsen. The next two holes ended tied despite strategic hammer throws, leaving Boston Common Golf ahead 6-5 before the final hole. Although a draw was still possible, the 24-year-old Thorbjörnsen confidently sank the last putt for eagle to secure the victory.

Michael Thorbjörnsen was also the first TGL player to sink four putts from distances beyond three meters in a single match. This bridged the gap between him and his teammates and Ryder Cup rivals McIlroy and Keegan Bradley, contributing decisively to the team’s overall win at the Palm Beach State College campus.
