The new TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons combine distance, forgiveness, and design in a complete package. Details on the new game-improvement irons.
TaylorMade introduces the new Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons, a new generation of game-improvement clubs designed to enhance distance, forgiveness, sound, and feel, while also addressing aesthetic aspects.
TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL: Next Generation Game-Improvement Irons
A key development focus was the face construction. Many game-improvement irons deform unevenly at impact due to an asymmetrical face with a higher toe than heel, which can cause extra cut spin and shots to the right when hit toward the toe. The Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons feature a face that bends more evenly, resulting in more stable ball launches and straighter ball flights with high ball speed.
Sound, Feel, and Internal Innovations
Both models incorporate a sound stabilizer bar connecting the back bar to the topline to reinforce the topline and reduce unwanted noises at impact. The ECHO dampening system material has been moved higher into the face to reduce vibrations and deliver a solid sound without losing the desired feedback upon strike. Optimized face designs and new internal structures further support speed and consistent distance.
Two Designs for Different Player Types
The Qi Max irons target players seeking distance and forgiveness in a relatively compact design, featuring thinner toplines, shorter blade lengths, and less offset with a seamless hosel transition. FLTD CG positions the center of gravity low in long irons for higher launch and stopping power, while shifting upward in short irons to support distance control. The 4-8 irons have a Speed Pocket for stable ball speeds even on lower strikes.
The Qi Max HL irons focus on maximum forgiveness, with larger head profiles, higher faces, and thicker soles and toplines for added stability and confidence. Their lofts are 3° weaker than the Qi Max, combined with ultralight heads, shafts, and grips to benefit players with slower swing speeds. This boosts clubhead speed, launch angle, and stopping ability alike.
