Gear Up to Go Low with Under Armour’s Latest Golf Collection

This summer, Under Armour is putting a modern twist on the golf classics with the release of the UA Goin’ Under Golf Collection. The Goin’ Under Collection offers head-to-toe pieces for both men and women that golfers can wear from the course to the clubhouse. In this collection, golfers will hit the green feeling optimistic and inspired to lower their score – because when you look the part, you play the part. Why not make today the day that you ‘go under’ par and play the round of your life?

Image: Under Armour

When designing new releases, Under Armour works closely with its athletes to incorporate their feedback to create performance solutions that meet and exceed their needs. With high-tech hoodies, jackets, and sweaters, this new line offers simple and clean styles that will keep golfers warm during early-morning tee times, while providing lightweight polos and tees to keep them cool as they grind through the hottest rounds.

Under Armour designer: “This accessible collection appeals to golfers of all levels and style preferences”

John O’Connor, Designer, Apparel Graphics at Under Armour: “The sport of golf has evolved tremendously so we knew we needed to evolve with it. We’re excited to bring The Goin’ Under Collection to life and offer bold options for golfers who want to stand out on the course. This accessible collection appeals to golfers of all levels and style preferences, combining quality clothing with modern designs, including the classics and some options with an edge.”

Image: Under Armour

With both male and female golfers in mind, the Goin’ Under Collection features an assortment of polos, tees, skirts and shoes that has golfers covered from head to toe and perfectly complement some of Under Armour’s innovations. This includes Under Armour favorites like the UA Drive Goin’ Under Polo, a modern take on the signature Playoff Polo with a sport bomber collar paired with an abstract course camo print that golfers can dress with the beloved Men’s UA Drive Joggers. The UA Icon Fleece Goin’ Under Crew is fitted to layer with other pieces from the collection and pairs perfectly with the UA Empower Skort, flexible and lightweight to help female golfers feel comfortable with every swing. With a nod to one of the most iconic cinematic references in golf, the collection’s gopher mascot is also displayed across a couple of different tees and hats – perfect for the golfer ready to crush course records and stand out from the pack.

Shoes for all course conditions

The collection also features Phantom Footwear, which was launched as a hero style earlier this season and combines the comfort of a training shoe with the traction and knit upper of a golf shoe. Prompted by the growing popularity of golf, UA took the footwear that players usually wear off the course and used it as the inspiration for creating a golf shoe. The waterproof membrane uppers keep golfers’ feet dry, and ground-hugging traction helps them play through any course conditions.

With bold prints, modern twists, and detailed designs, all eyes will be on golfers when they suit up in the UA Goin’ Under Golf Collection this season. The collection is now live on UA.com and can be found in select UA Brand Houses.

Properly Equipped Right From the Start: The Beginner Fitting at HIO

At what point does a golf club fitting make sense? Many golfers believe that they need to have a consistent swing in order to be able to carry out a meaningful fitting analysis. However, even beginners can definitely benefit from a suitable golf club, prevent incorrect loading and avoid learning the wrong technique, thereby even accelerating their sporting development – after all, nobody would think of starting cycling with a bicycle that is far too big. Depending on the golfer’s physical requirements and their long-term goals, the club set will be perfectly tailored to them. In very few cases is a complete set of 14 clubs necessary at the beginning. It is better to have fewer clubs in the bag, but the right ones. True to the motto: quality before quantity.

The right time for a golf club fitting?

At HIO Fitting, we are often asked whether it makes sense to have a fitting immediately after you are ready to play golf or if you only have a few months of playing experience. Many players are concerned that their technique will change a lot and that they have not yet had enough experience on golf rounds. At this point, our HIO fitters can reassure all golf beginners: The level of golf they have reached initially has nothing to do with their decision to have a fitting.

Every passionate golfer can have a fitting analysis and benefit from customized clubs! Golf beginners or players with an average handicap often benefit more from a fitting analysis than professionals, as they are usually already very familiar with their equipment anyway. Of course, a fitting for beginners is not as detailed as a fitting for a top amateur with a single-digit handicap or even a professional. The focus of the fitting is more on fundamental considerations, for example the right bag composition: Which clubs are really necessary at the moment and which should perhaps be added to the bag later?

How does a beginner fitting work?

  1. Discussion of golfing goals

The first step is to discuss our customers’ golfing goals: How many times a month will they go to the range or out for a round? What is the target handicap? Are coaching lessons planned for the future? Do they already have ball sports experience? Do you plan to take part in golf tournaments in the future? All these factors help us to assess where our customers will be heading in the next few years.

  1. Static measurement of the body

In the second step, we analyze the existing physical conditions. We are particularly interested in age, height, arm length, hand size, existing physical problems and many other parameters. This is the only way we can ensure that the club is built in such a way that our customers can learn the golf technique neutrally and in a natural position, thus avoiding possible incorrect strain.

  1. Analysis of swing & technique

Our customers then hit a few balls onto a screen and we take a look at the player’s technical fundamentals. A launch monitor is used to measure club head speed, ball speed, flight height, distance and the current tendency of the flight curve. In this way, potential patterns in a swing movement can be identified and unfavorable tendencies, e.g. a slice, can be mitigated with the help of an adapted club. This measurement of the status quo is very important, as the next step involves testing various club components and comparing the distance, dispersion and other parameters between the old and new material. We also store this data in our database with the customer’s consent, so that this data can be used as a comparative value for a second fitting a few years later.

  1. Recommendation for a club combination

In the final step, our HIO fitters recommend a sensible set of clubs. At the beginning, for example, you can start with a “half set”, in which only three to four different irons are initially placed in the bag. In most cases, a transport club, a hybrid and a fairway wood or driver for the tee shot are also useful. Add to this the putter – and with 7 or 8 clubs you have a decent set to really get started with golf! Of course, you can buy a full set at the start of your golf career, but only in the rarest of cases are all 14 permitted clubs really necessary.

The most important thing with a set of clubs for beginners is that the club type, club head width, shaft (graphite, carbon or steel shaft) and grip match the body angles and swing technique. This is where we benefit from all the data collected during the fitting process from testing various material combinations.

With a beginner’s set, our HIO fitters always take into account that missing clubs can be added after a certain period of time and the current clubs can be further adjusted. The irons and wedges in particular can always be adapted to the current swing by bending and adjusting the loft and lie angle. This means that the club set can “grow” with the player’s development and does not have to be replaced every year or with every significant handicap improvement. This also applies to the driver, whose loft is usually adjustable. So if a beginner golfer’s swing patterns change and improve, we can readjust the club so that it is always perfectly adapted to the player.

Our conclusion

A club fitting is also useful for beginners! Especially in the early stages, there are many opportunities to optimally prepare the golfer and their equipment for the upcoming swing developments. During starter fittings, our fitting customers receive a lot of useful information about golf clubs, swing technique and training tips in just a short time.

We would be delighted to welcome you to a starter fitting at HoleInOne Fitting in Munich! Come along and find the perfect equipment for your swing together with us!

With TaylorMade: Scottie Scheffler’s Unbeatable Stats on the Green

An incredible run of success began for Scottie Scheffler at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March 2024. In just ten starts on the PGA Tour, the 28-year-old recorded six victories and immortalized himself among the most successful players in the history of the PGA Tour. Not only a second Masters title, but also a title defense at the Players Championship have graced his resume since then.

He used a new putter for the first time at the Arnold Palmer Invitational: Scheffler opted for the TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter. With this model, a Mallett putter, the world number 1 has since been more successful than ever before, as his statistics on and around the green show.

Scottie Scheffler: With TaylorMade to birdie rain

Scottie Scheffler played his way to his six victories in the last few months with a total of 121 birdies, 27 of which he made in the final rounds of the tournaments. He made 28 birdies from over 15 feet, 11 from over 20 feet and six from over 30 feet. Figures that prove that the world number one has nerves of steel: seven times in the six tournaments he achieved a birdie series of three birdies or more.

He usually holed his longest birdie putts from 30 t0 40 feet. In the third round of the US Masters, he holed twice from this distance for birdies, putting his strong competitors under real pressure. Another statement at the first major of the year: an eagle putt from 31 feet.

However, Scottie Scheffler converted his longest birdie putt to date at his first tournament with the TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He converted the birdie from almost 45 feet on the 15th hole of the second round.

While Scottie Scheffler excelled with his long putts, he also frequently made it easy for himself thanks to his precise approaches. He often drove the ball off the fairway and onto the stick or made long putts close to the hole. For example, at his last triumph, the Travelers Championship, he put the ball from 132 yards directly on the 18th hole of the Moving Day.

The TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter

Scottie Scheffler played a blade putter for most of his career. He played his first rounds with a Mallett putter, the model with the significantly larger club head, in 2023, but returned to the familiar blade head. TaylorMade then developed a new prototype that would be perfectly matched to Scheffler’s putting. After various adjustments, Scottie Scheffler finally found the perfect model in the TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter for a winning streak that hardly any golfer had achieved before.

Golf Shoe Guide: Which type suits you best?

The right golf shoe is an important decision for every player, after all, we spend the entire round on our feet. In order to carry our entire body for several hours and kilometres and to transfer the maximum energy into the ground with every shot, golf shoes have been developed for quite some time that are perfectly designed for this task based on their sole, fit and material. But what should you always look for when buying a golf shoe? What really influences one’s game in the end and what characteristics must a good golf shoe absolutely have?

Golf shoe: material, spikes and laces – many models, many options

As in every category, you will find a variety of different models and types of golf shoes. The biggest difference in golf shoes is the material on the one hand, and the spikes under the sole on the other. It is worth trying on different models and trying out different types of golf shoes to find your own favourite. In the end, however, the wearing comfort should primarily influence the purchase decision so that the feet also survive 18 holes or more well.

The golf shoe has evolved over many years. In the past, it was etiquette to wear leather shoes on the golf course. Although this image has changed somewhat today, the majority of golfers still go for the classic leather shoe, which is available from almost every brand in the range. The advantage is the long durability, provided they are properly cared for, and the weather resistance. Only in warmer temperatures does the leather shoe reveal a small disadvantage: breathability.

Fortunately, there is a good alternative here. In the meantime, almost all brands also offer a golf shoe in a sporty design. These almost resemble a normal sneaker, are light, comfortable and made of breathable material to ensure a pleasant feeling even on hot golf days.

The golf shoe: soft spikes or knobs

A whole new era was ushered in by PumaAdidas, and Nike with the first ankle-high golf shoes, which Rickie Fowlerbrought to the spotlight a few years ago. These new models resemble basketball shoes in shape. The raised ankle design aims to provide more stability and fully encompass the foot.

You will also quickly notice a decisive difference when looking under the golf shoe. A distinction is mainly made between two variants, metal spikes are generally no longer used. On the one hand, there are the soft spikes, on the other hand, many players also rely on the plastic studs. Soft spikes generally dig into the ground a little better and offer more grip, but also less flexibility in the foot. With plastic studs, it’s the other way around. While they initially lacked the necessary traction, the materials and shape are now so sophisticated that golfers no longer have to do without the necessary grip, even without spikes.

Never tie your golf shoes again – the BOA system

As with the material, a lot has changed when it comes to lacing golf shoes. The latest innovation is the so-called BOA system, which can now be found in all popular brands. The practical model has now made it into golf via the industry and for good reason: with the BOA system, a few turns of the fastener are enough and the laces tighten as if by themselves. After the round of golf, a quick tug is all it takes to release the shoe from the foot.

Golf Equipment for Beginners: What do Beginners Need to Consider?

What is the right golf equipment? Unfortunately, the answers to these questions are often unsatisfactory, even from professionals, as they tend to say that cheap clubs are sufficient to start with. They give beginners the feeling that they should buy as many golf clubs as possible for as little money as possible. However, quality is actually essential for those taking their first steps in golf.

When is golf equipment suitable for beginners?
How big should a golf club set for beginners be?
Checklist for golf equipment

Other equipment

Conclusion: Even beginners need quality in their golf bag.

When is golf equipment suitable for beginners?

When it comes to golf clubs, it is therefore important to pay attention to several criteria, especially for beginners: The manufacturing quality has a significant influence on the learning success of beginners. This is because different clubs are aimed at different golfers. If you start with the wrong clubs, they may behave completely differently to higher quality, suitable models. The wrong equipment can complicate and slow down the learning process in the long term.

Many factors combine to determine the quality of the golf clubs: the effective weight of the individual components of the club, the alignment of the shaft, the geometry (length, lie, loft), the fitting of the golf club set and finally the material of the clubs. Nowadays, the club head should be made of carbon, stainless steel or titanium. The material of the shaft is sometimes differentiated according to gender: Women usually get on very well with graphite clubs, while men can also opt for steel shafts, depending on their swing speed. Recently, there have also been bi-matrix variants that combine both materials. The grip material is generally of secondary importance: Almost anything goes here, from textile to rubber. The decisive factor is that the player feels comfortable with the grip of the golf clubs.

How big should a golf club set for beginners be?

The heart of the golf club set at the start of a golf career is the iron set. Beginners can decide together with their coaches whether to buy a full set, a half set or even just a single iron club. The decisive factor here is the golfer’s personal goals. In all cases, the purchase of a 7-iron as well as a pitching wedge or 9-iron is a good start to test out the game of golf. In the long term, a golfer needs a full set, but in the beginning he can also save money here and start with just a few irons in his golf bag, but then ideally choose high-quality irons. The same applies to woods. Beginners can postpone the purchase of golf clubs for the time being, as playing with woods requires a more stable swing. In the end, only the putter is indispensable.

Fitting the new golf clubs

Even if you are new to golf, it is advisable to visit a fitter. A well-fitted set of irons (or even individual clubs) will make it easier to get started in the sport. You can also use the measurements and golf equipment requirements determined in this way later on to complete your half set. The fitter can also advise you on putting together your set of irons.

Further equipment

Carrying is only recommended for really well-trained beginners. A golf trolley that can be used to transport the golf bag is therefore more suitable. In recent years, the back-friendly three-wheel trolley has prevailed over the two-wheel trolley.
Very few players do without golf gloves completely, as they guarantee a better grip on the club. The abrasion on the glove is also a good indicator of grip and swing errors.

The fit of the golf shoes is crucial. You can only find out which shoe is the right one by trying it out. As a round of golf involves a lot of walking, the shoes should fit well and be comfortable.

Golf balls are essential for the game of golf, as they disappear quicker than you would like, especially at the beginning of your golf career. Balls with a lot of spin are not recommended for beginners, as they usually also increase the unwanted spin. However, the choice of golf ball is often a personal preference, and beginners should also decide on the hardness of the ball by feel.

Conclusion: Even beginners need quality in their golf bag

Beginners are often tempted to save money on the golf club set. However, this is the wrong way to go if you save on the quality of the golf clubs. Beginners in particular need high quality for good initial learning success. That’s why it’s better to buy fewer clubs first, but high-quality ones. It all depends on the material and the set-up of the clubs. The putter and some irons such as 7, 8 & 9 should not be missing from the first golf club set.
