MagentaTV Expands Golf Coverage with Sky Commentator Switch

Gregor Biernath moves from Sky to MagentaTV, strengthening their golf team as live coverage ramps up.

After MagentaTV secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the Ryder Cup, the DP World Tour, and the PGA Tour, a prominent commentator is now joining from Sky Sport to MagentaTV. The broadcasts will begin on January 15, 2026, offering a total of 131 golf events live on two channels, making MagentaTV the new home for live golf on television.

Gregor Biernath: ‘Something New and Good for Golf is Emerging’

Gregor Biernath, one of the most recognized golf voices in German-speaking countries, is switching from Sky to MagentaTV. Biernath will lead the new expert team, supported by golf professionals Florian Zunker, Bernd Ritthammer, and Max Kramer. Commenting on his move, Biernath said, ‘The entire team immediately made me feel that something new and good can emerge for golf here. We can innovate and shake up golf coverage at MagentaTV.’ He also described the new team as a ‘cool editorial team’ and a ‘really good mix.’

In the commentator department, new faces were sought and found. Michael Born, previously a handball and football commentator at DAZN, will now commentate golf events together with Herbert Gogel and Stephan Gandel. Additionally, Holger Speckhahn, known primarily as an ice hockey presenter for MagentaSport, will accompany the upcoming live broadcasts.
