While Schmid, Jäger, and Straka miss the weekend cut at the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads The American Express with 22 under par.
On the third day of The American Express at the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it became clear which players would make the cut. Since the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut is made only after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.
PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss the Cut
Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club course and suffered two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He improved slightly with a bogey on hole 4 and found some rhythm with a birdie on hole 5 on the front nine. The rest of the front nine was error-free, but he also had two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on hole 11 could not lift him from difficulty, and he finished the third day with a 77-round. He fell far back on the leaderboard and could not stay in the tournament with three under par overall.
Stephan Jäger had a similar fate. Starting on the Nicklaus Tournament Course on the third day, he played a solid 70-round with five birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey. Despite a strong 66-round the previous day, his total of nine under par was not enough to make the cut, as the cut line stood at eleven under par.
Sepp Straka Also Falls Short for the Weekend
Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner, Sepp Straka, struggled to find form at the event. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were average. He improved with a 68-round and four under par on the third day but finished the tournament at two under par, well short of the cut line.
Scheffler and Brown Remain Within Striking Distance
Though Si Woo Kim slightly worsened his personal tournament average with a 66 on day three, he still leads the leaderboard at 22 under par. Closely following Kim at 21 under par are Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shared first place on Friday. Both Americans posted their weakest rounds of the tournament on Saturday with 68 rounds (four under par). Ch
