While Schmid, Jäger and Straka miss the weekend cut on the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads with 22 under par.
On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it was decided which players would make the cut. Since the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut at The American Express is made after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will thus not participate in the final round on Sunday.
PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss Cut
Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club course and suffered two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. On hole 4, he improved slightly with a bogey, and only on hole 5 did he find his rhythm with a birdie on the front nine. The rest of the front nine was error-free, but on the back nine, Schmid had to accept two more bogeys. Even a birdie on hole 11 could not lift him out of his slump, and he finished the third round with a 77, dropping far back on the leaderboard and finishing at three under par, not enough to make the cut.
Similarly, Munich native Stephan Jäger started his third round on the Nicklaus Tournament Course and played a solid 70 with five birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey. Despite a strong 66 on the previous day, his total of nine under par was not enough to make the cut, which stood at eleven under par.
Sepp Straka Also Falls Short of the Weekend
Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka also struggled to find form during the tournament. His rounds of 72 and 74 on Thursday and Friday were rather average. He improved with a 68 (four under par) on the third day but finished the tournament at two under par overall—well short of the cut line.
Scheffler and Brown Remain in Contention
Although Si Woo Kim slightly worsened his personal tournament average with a 66 on the third day, he took the lead on the leaderboard at 22 under par. Close behind are Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, both at 21 under par, having shared first place on Friday. Both Americans recorded their weakest rounds of the tournament with 68s (four under par) on Saturday.
