While Schmid, Jäger and Straka miss the weekend at the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads The American Express with 22 under par.
On the third day of The American Express at the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it became clear which players made the cut. Since the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut at The American Express happens only after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.
PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss the Cut
Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club course and suffered double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He slightly improved with a bogey on hole 4 and found his rhythm with a birdie on hole 5 on the front nine. The rest of the front nine was error-free, but he had two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on hole 11 could not lift him out of his slump, and he finished the third round with a 77, falling far back on the leaderboard and ending the tournament at three under par, missing the cut.
Similarly, Munich’s Stephan Jäger started the third round on the Nicklaus Tournament Course, posting a solid 70 with five birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey. Despite a strong 66 the previous day, his total of nine under par was not enough to make the cut, which was set at eleven under par.
Sepp Straka Also Fails to Make the Weekend
Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka also struggled to find his form at this event. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were rather average. Although he improved with a 68 (four under par) on the third day, he ended the tournament overall at two under par, well short of the cut line.
Scheffler and Brown Stay in Chase
Despite a slightly weaker 66 on day three, Si Woo Kim took the lead on the leaderboard with a total of 22 under par. Close behind with 21 under par are Blades Brown and the world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shared the top spot on Friday. Both Americans had their weakest rounds on Saturday, shooting 68 (four under par). Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark each carded 66 and stand at
