PGA Tour: DACH Players Miss Cut as Si Woo Kim Leads at The American Express

While Schmid, Jäger, and Straka miss the weekend cut at the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads the leaderboard at 22 under par.

On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, the players who made the cut were determined. Because the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut at The American Express occurs only after three rounds. The two German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not play in the final round on Sunday.

PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss Cut

Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club course and suffered two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He improved slightly with a bogey on hole 4 and found some rhythm with a birdie on hole 5 on the front nine. The rest of the front nine was error-free, but Schmid had two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on hole 11 could not lift him out of trouble, and he finished the third round with a 77, dropping him back on the leaderboard. With a score of three under par overall, he did not make the cut.

Stephan Jäger from Munich had a similar fate. Starting on the Nicklaus Tournament Course on day three, he posted a solid 70 with five birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey. Despite a strong 66 round the day before, his total of nine under par was not enough to reach the cutline, which stood at eleven under par.

Sepp Straka Also Falls Short of Weekend

Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka struggled to find his form at the event. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were average. He improved on Saturday with a 68 and four under par but finished the tournament at two under par overall, well short of the cutline.

Scheffler and Brown Stay Within Reach

Although Si Woo Kim slightly lowered his personal tournament average with a 66 on day three, he took the lead on the leaderboard at 22 under par. He is closely followed by Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who had shared first place on Friday. Both Americans posted their weakest rounds so far with 68 on Saturday (four under par). Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark are just behind in the standings with 20 under par after rounds of 66.
