PGA Tour: DACH Players Miss Cut at The American Express in California

While Schmid, Jäger, and Straka miss the weekend on the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads the leaderboard at 22 under par.

On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three courses at PGA West in La Quinta, southern California, it became clear which players would make the cut. Since the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut at The American Express is made after three rounds. The two German players, Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger, missed the cut on Saturday and thus cannot participate in the final round on Sunday.

PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss Cut

Matti Schmid started his round at the La Quinta Country Club course and suffered two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He slightly improved with a bogey on hole 4 and found his rhythm on hole 5 with a birdie on the front nine. The remaining front nine holes were error-free, but on the back nine, Schmid incurred two more bogeys. A birdie on hole 11 could not lift him from his struggles, and he finished the third round with a 77, dropping far down the leaderboard and finishing at three under par, which was not enough to stay in the tournament.

Similarly, Munich’s Stephan Jäger began his third round on the Nicklaus Tournament Course and played a solid 70 with five birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey. Although he posted a strong 66 the previous day, his total of nine under par was short of the cut line set at eleven under par.

Sepp Straka Also Falls Short for the Weekend

Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka struggled to find his form during the event. His Thursday (72) and Friday (74) rounds were average, but he improved on the third day with a 68, four under par. Nevertheless, he ended the tournament at two under par overall, well outside the cut line.

Scheffler and Brown Remain Within Striking Distance

Despite Si Woo Kim slightly missing his personal tournament average with a 66 on the third day, he took the lead at 22 under par. Close behind Kim at 21 under par are Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shared first place on Friday. Both Americans posted their weakest rounds of the tournament on
