PGA Tour: DACH Players Miss Cut as Si Woo Kim Leads at The American Express

While Schmid, Jäger and Straka miss the weekend cut on the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads with 22 under par.

On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three golf courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it became clear which players would make the cut. Since the tournament is played across three different courses, the cut at The American Express comes after three rounds. German players Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.

PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss Cut

Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club course and suffered two double bogeys early on holes 2 and 3. He slightly improved with a bogey on hole 4 and found his rhythm with a birdie on hole 5 on the front nine. While the rest of the front nine was bogey-free, he took two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on hole 11 could not lift him out of difficulties, ending the day with a 77. Falling far back on the leaderboard, he finished at three under par, not enough to make the cut.

Similarly, Munich’s Stephan Jäger played the Nicklaus Tournament Course on day three, carding five birdies, one bogey and one double bogey for a solid 70. Despite a strong 66 on the previous day, his total of nine under par was short of the cut line at 11 under par.

Sepp Straka Also Falls Short for Weekend

Austrian and 2025 Ryder Cup winner Sepp Straka struggled to find form during the tournament. After rounds of 72 on Thursday and 74 on Friday, he improved with a 68 on Saturday (four under par) but finished the tournament at two under par overall, well outside the cut line.

Scheffler and Brown Stay Close in Contention

Although Si Woo Kim slightly dropped from his tournament average with a 66 on day three, he still took the lead at 22 under par. He is closely followed by Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shared first place on Friday. Both Americans carded 68s (four under par) on Saturday—their weakest rounds so far. Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark are just behind with 66s and 20 under par, keeping the leaderboard tightly contested.
