While Schmid, Jäger, and Straka miss the weekend cut at the PGA Tour, Si Woo Kim leads the leaderboard at 22 under par.
On the third day of The American Express on the PGA Tour, held across three golf courses at PGA West in La Quinta, Southern California, it became clear which players would make the cut. Since the tournament is played on three different courses, the cut at The American Express is made after three rounds. The two German players, Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger, missed the cut on Saturday and will not participate in the final round on Sunday.
PGA Tour: Jäger and Schmid Miss the Cut
Matti Schmid started on the La Quinta Country Club golf course and suffered two double bogeys on holes 2 and 3. He slightly improved with a bogey on the 4th hole and found his form with a birdie on the 5th hole on the front nine. The rest of the front nine was error-free, but Schmid had to endure two more bogeys on the back nine. Even a birdie on the 11th hole could not lift him from the slump, ending the third day with a 77 and falling back on the leaderboard. With 3 under par overall, he did not make the cut.
Similarly, Munich native Stephan Jäger started his third round on the Nicklaus Tournament Course and recorded five birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey for a solid 70. Despite a strong 66 the previous day, his total of 9 under par was not enough for the cut, which was set at 11 under par.
Sepp Straka Also Falls Short of Weekend
Austria’s Sepp Straka, the 2025 Ryder Cup winner, also struggled to find his game during the tournament. His rounds on Thursday (72) and Friday (74) were average. On the third day, he improved with a 68 (4 under par) but finished the tournament at 2 under par overall, well below the cut line.
Scheffler and Brown Remain Within Reach
Although Si Woo Kim slightly missed his personal best with a 66 on day three, he claimed the top of the leaderboard at 22 under par. Hot on his heels at 21 under par are Blades Brown and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who had shared the lead on Friday. Both Americans posted their weakest round yet on Saturday, a 68 (4 under par). Chasers Eric Cole and Wyndham Clark are close behind at 20 under par, each shooting 66 on Saturday, maintaining a tight leaderboard race.
