Davis Riley Takes Lead at PGA Tour Sony Open in Hawaii on Moving Day

Davis Riley takes the lead after round three at the PGA Tour Sony Open in Hawaii. The race for the title remains tight heading into the final day.

Davis Riley Takes the Lead Despite a Mixed Round

After the cut, 74 players started the weekend at -1 at the PGA Tour in Hawaii. On Moving Day, Davis Riley moved to the top of the field thanks to many birdies. Despite an early bogey, the American remained composed and posted an up-and-down but effective round. He carded three bogeys and six birdies, including one on the final hole.

Riley commented on the challenging wind and putting conditions: ‘You have to try to make some putts on the fast greens and in the wind when you get the chance.’

With a day score of -3, Riley is now at a total of -12 and enters the final day with a two-shot lead over his closest chasers Chris Gotterup, Kevin Roy, and Harry Hall.

Harry Hall Positions Himself Well with a Strong Round

Harry Hall had a strong Saturday, shooting -4 to move significantly up the leaderboard before the final round. Five birdies highlighted his excellent play around and on the greens, with only one bogey at the 15th hole. Hall achieved a top-10 finish at the Sony Open last year and could aim for even more this time.

Title Defense Hopes Still Alive

Defending champion Nick Taylor had to scale back his ambitions on Saturday, posting an even par with four bogeys and four birdies. At a total of -9, he dropped from the lead but remains within striking distance heading into the final day with a chance to defend his title.

Right behind him is Corey Conners, who shot a strong -5 with seven birdies and two bogeys, standing at -8 total after the Moving Day. Conners found momentum on the back nine with a streak of four consecutive birdies starting at hole 9, which earned him the best round of the day. He said, ‘I like it when it’s windy here.’

PGA Tour: Vijay Singh Delivers Across Decades

Perhaps the story of the tournament is 62-year-old Vijay Singh, who made the cut at the Sony Open in his fourth different decade. This marked his 25th start at this event. The 2005 champion shot a -2 on Saturday and improved to -4 total, entering the final day currently tied for 32nd place.
