Stephan Jäger starts a strong comeback with a flawless 65, climbing 39 spots to T6 before the final round.
The Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California continues to offer excitement. At the top, 45-year-old American Justin Rose maintains his lead despite some setbacks on the back nine of the third round.
Rose Holds Lead Despite Back Nine Struggles
Rose dazzled with four birdies on the front nine but encountered three bogeys on the back nine. Even with three more birdies on the back nine, he finished with a 68-round, unable to match his earlier 62 on Thursday and 65 on Friday. Nevertheless, Rose holds a six-stroke lead and stays 21 under par at the top of the leaderboard.
Following Rose is American Joel Dahmen, who also posted a strong 68 on the third day, moving up one spot to second place at 15 under par. Close behind are two Asian players tied at 13 under par: Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and South Korea’s Si Woo Kim share third place (T3).
Both faced the challenge of the South Course on day three. Hisatsune balanced two bogeys with three birdies on the front nine and stayed bogey-free on the back nine, adding three more birdies to finish with a 68-round. Kim scored a 69, despite a double bogey on the 12th hole. He tallied seven birdies and two bogeys for a three-under-par day.
PGA Tour: Jäger’s Strong Comeback and Leap Forward
German Stephan Jäger improved significantly after a 75 on the previous day. Remaining flawless on Saturday, he scored seven birdies for a strong 65, propelling him up 39 positions to a tie for sixth place (T6) on the leaderboard.
Brooks Koepka, making his PGA Tour comeback from the LIV Golf Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open, again had a mediocre third round, finishing one over par and tied for 61st place. Matti Schmid made the cut on Friday but only improved by 15 places to tied 30th with a 70-round on Saturday.
