Stephan Jäger fires a flawless 65 to make a strong comeback, climbing 39 spots to T6 ahead of the final round.
The Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California remains exciting. At the top, 45-year-old American Justin Rose holds firm, despite some setbacks on the back nine of the third round.
Rose Maintains Lead Despite Back Nine Struggles
Rose shone with four birdies on the front nine but suffered three bogeys on the back nine. Three additional birdies in the second half led to a 68 round. He was unable to match his 62 on Thursday and 65 on Friday, but remains six strokes ahead on the leaderboard at 21 under par.
Rose is chased by American Joel Dahmen, who also posted a strong 68 on day three, moving up one place to solo second at 15 under par. Close behind, two Asian players share third place at 13 under par: Japanese Ryo Hisatsune and Korean Si Woo Kim.
Both faced the South Course on the third day. Hisatsune balanced two bogeys with three birdies on the front nine and remained bogey-free on the back nine with three more birdies, finishing with a 68. Kim carded a 69, including a double bogey on hole 12. Seven birdies and two bogeys resulted in three under par for the day.
PGA Tour: Jäger with Strong Comeback and Leap Forward
German Stephan Jäger improved significantly after a 75 on the previous day. Remaining error-free on Saturday, he made seven birdies for a strong 65, jumping 39 places to a tie for sixth. Brooks Koepka, making his PGA Tour comeback from the LIV Golf Tour, had a mediocre third round, at one over par tied 61st. Matti Schmid made the cut but only improved 15 places to tied 30th with a 70.
