Stephan Jäger starts a strong comeback with a flawless 65, moving up 39 spots to T6 before the final round.
The Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California, continues to provide excitement. At the top remains 45-year-old American Justin Rose, despite some setbacks on the back nine during the third round.
Rose Maintains Lead Despite Back Nine Struggles
Rose shined with four birdies on the front nine but took three bogeys on the back nine. Three additional birdies in the second half led to a 68-round. He could not match his 62 on Thursday or 65 on Friday but still leads the leaderboard by six strokes, standing at 21 under par.
He is chased by American Joel Dahmen, who also posted a strong 68 on the third day, moving up one place to sole second place at 15 under par. Close behind are two Asian players at 13 under par each: Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and Korea’s Si Woo Kim, both tied for third (T3).
Both had to prove themselves on the South Course of the California venue. Hisatsune balanced two bogeys with three birdies on the front nine and remained bogey-free on the back nine with three more birdies, finishing with a 68. Kim shot 69 on Saturday, including a double bogey on hole 12. Still, seven birdies and two bogeys resulted in three under par for the day.
PGA Tour: Jäger’s Strong Comeback and Leap Forward
German Stephan Jäger improved significantly after a 75 on the previous day. Remaining error-free on Saturday, he recorded seven birdies and a strong 65 round, elevating him to tied sixth place (T6) and jumping 39 spots on the leaderboard on day three.
Brooks Koepka, making his comeback to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf at the Farmers Insurance Open, had another mediocre third round. He sits tied 61st after shooting one over par. Matti Schmid made the cut on Friday but could only improve 15 places to tied 30th with a 70 on Saturday.
