Stephan Jäger starts a strong comeback with a flawless 65, climbing 39 spots to T6 ahead of the final round.
At the Farmers Insurance Open of the PGA Tour held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California, the competition remains intense. American Justin Rose, 45, still leads the field despite some setbacks on the back nine during the third round.
Rose Holds Lead Despite Back Nine Struggles
Rose shone with four birdies on the front nine but suffered three bogeys on the back nine. Three more birdies in the second half earned him a 68 for the day, which couldn’t match his impressive 62 on Thursday and 65 on Friday. Nevertheless, Rose maintains a six-shot lead atop the leaderboard, standing at 21 under par.
He is chased by American Joel Dahmen, who also posted a strong 68 on the third day, moving up one spot to second place at 15 under par. Close behind are two Asian players at 13 under par each: Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and Korea’s Si Woo Kim share third place (T3).
Both competed on the South Course on day three. Hisatsune balanced two bogeys with three birdies on the front nine and remained bogey-free on the back nine, adding three more birdies to finish with a 68. Kim posted a 69 but suffered a double bogey on hole 12. Despite seven birdies and two bogeys, he finished three under par for the day.
PGA Tour: Jäger’s Strong Comeback and Leap Forward
German Stephan Jäger significantly improved after a 75 on the previous day. Playing flawlessly with seven birdies, he carded a strong 65 on Saturday, rising to a tie for sixth (T6) and climbing 39 spots on the leaderboard.
Brooks Koepka, returning to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf, had an average third round, finishing one over par and tied at 61st place. Matti Schmid made the cut on Friday but could only improve 15 spots with a 70, now tied for 30th place.
