PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open. Meanwhile, Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut thanks to a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German fired an excellent 67 (-5) on Friday. Although Schmid began his round with a bogey, he remained flawless thereafter. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 propelled him 57 spots up to tied 45th place.

Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend. The German stands at -4 after two rounds. A challenging stretch of three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early on. Although Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3). He dropped 40 places but comfortably made the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on the PGA Tour

At his PGA Tour comeback, Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class. After a first round of +1, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey kept Koepka at -3 total, barely securing his weekend spot. He commented on his start: \”I think I was excited, nervous, and uncertain about what to expect yesterday. Today I felt more normal.\”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the benchmark. Following an outstanding opening 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle outweighed a single bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend and can celebrate topping his personal best score of -15 after 36 holes.
