PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Rose Extends Lead at Farmers Insurance Open

Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid nailed a strong second round to make the cut. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German followed up with a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting his round with a bogey, Schmid remained error-free afterwards, carding six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 to jump 57 places to a tie for 45th.

Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend. The German sits at a total of -4 after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early on. Although Jäger countered with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round, dropping him 40 places overall but comfortably inside the cut line.

Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka displayed his class during his PGA Tour comeback. After a +1 opening round, the major winner improved significantly on day two with a 68 (-4). Three birdies, one eagle, and one bogey helped Koepka sneak into the weekend at -3 total. Reflecting on his performance, he said, \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure of what to expect. Today, I felt more normal.\”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the man to beat. After an outstanding 62 (-10) on opening day, the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong round of 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were offset by just one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend and already celebrates a personal best after 36 holes, surpassing his previous record of -15.
