Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Play Into the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut thanks to a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German fired a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Although he started his round with a bogey, Schmid remained error-free afterward. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 catapulted him up 57 places to a tied 45th position.
Stephan Jäger also advanced to the weekend. After two rounds, the German stood at -4 overall. A rough patch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Although Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine resulted in a 75 (+3). He dropped 40 places in the standings but safely made the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on PGA Tour
Making his comeback on the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class. After a +1 opening round, the major winner improved significantly on day two with a 68 (-4). Three birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey were enough for Koepka to sneak into the weekend at -3 overall. He commented on his start: \”I think I was excited and nervous yesterday, uncertain of what to expect. Today, I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose remains the man to beat. Following an outstanding opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were matched by only one bogey. With a total score of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes going into the weekend. He can celebrate a victory after 36 holes, having surpassed his personal best of -15 for this stage.
