PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Schmid and Jäger make the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting his round with a bogey, Schmid remained error-free afterward, posting six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, climbing 57 places to a tie for 45th.

Also moving on to the weekend is Stephan Jäger, currently at -4 after two rounds. A challenging stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Though Jäger responded with a birdie, a further stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round, dropping him 40 positions but still safely within the cut line.

Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class during his PGA Tour comeback. Following a first round of +1, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and a single bogey enabled Koepka to narrowly make the cut at -3 overall. He commented, “I think I was nervous and uncertain yesterday. Today I felt more normal.”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the player to beat. After an outstanding opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle counterbalanced only one bogey, extending his overall lead to -17, four strokes ahead before the weekend. This score also surpasses his personal best of -15 after 36 holes.
