PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Schmid and Jäger make the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a clean 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting his round with a bogey, he remained flawless afterwards, making six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, jumping 57 places to a tie for 45th.

Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend. After two rounds, he stood at -4. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Although Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round, dropping him 40 places overall but still safely inside the cut line.

Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on PGA Tour

Back on the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class. After an opening round of +1, the major champion improved significantly with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey helped Koepka reach -3 overall and barely make the weekend cut. He stated, “I felt excited, nervous, and uncertain yesterday, but today I felt more normal.”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the man to beat. Following an outstanding opening 62 (-10), the Englishman backed it up with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle versus only one bogey led to a total of -17, extending his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. Rose also achieved a personal milestone by surpassing his previous best 36-hole score of -15.
