Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open. Meanwhile, Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite a bogey start, Schmid remained error-free, firing six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, catapulting him 57 spots forward to a tie for 45th place.
Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend, standing at -4 after two rounds. A challenging phase with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Though Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3), dropping him 40 places overall but safely inside the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka showcased his class during his PGA Tour comeback. After a +1 opening round, the major champion shot an improved 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey helped Koepka narrowly make the weekend at -3 overall. Koepka commented, \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose remains the man to beat. Following an exceptional opening 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7) round. Six birdies and an eagle were offset by only one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his weekend lead to four strokes, already celebrating a personal best after 36 holes, surpassing his previous record of -15.
