Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Make It to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Although he started his round with a bogey, he remained error-free afterward. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 propelled him 57 places forward to a tie for 45th.
Stephan Jäger also advanced to the weekend. The German stands at -4 after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early on. Despite a birdie counterattack, another setback on the back nine resulted in a 75 (+3). He dropped 40 places overall but safely made the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on the PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class in his PGA Tour comeback. After a first-round +1, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey allowed Koepka to just make the weekend at -3 total. He said about his start: \”I think I was excited to play yesterday, nervous, and unsure what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Ahead at the Top
Justin Rose remains the man to beat. After a stellar 62 (-10) opening round, the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7) round. Six birdies and an eagle came against just one bogey. At -17 total, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. He can already celebrate success after 36 holes, surpassing his previous personal best of -15 through two rounds.
