PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German carded a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting with a bogey, he remained error-free afterward, making six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, jumping 57 places to a share of 45th position.

Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend, sitting at -4 after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. While he bounced back with a birdie, another setback on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round, dropping him 40 places but keeping him safely within the cut line.

Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour

During his return to the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka showcased his class. After a +1 opening round, the major winner significantly improved with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, one eagle, and a single bogey were enough to secure a spot in the weekend at -3 overall. Koepka commented, ‘I think I was nervous and unsure of what to expect yesterday. Today I felt more normal.’

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the man to beat. Following an outstanding opening 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with a further 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle against only one bogey bring his total to -17, extending his lead to four shots heading into the weekend. Rose also celebrated a personal milestone, surpassing his previous best 36-hole score of -15 with the new mark of -17.
