Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger secured the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After an opening 73 (+1), the German posted an excellent 67 (-5) on Friday. Although he started his round with a bogey, he then played flawlessly with six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, moving up 57 places to a tie for 45th position.
Stephan Jäger also made it through to the weekend. The German stands at a total of -4 after two rounds. However, a tough stretch with three bogeys in a row from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. He countered with a birdie, but another setback on the back nine led to a 75 (+3). This dropped him 40 spots in the standings, but he safely made the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Qualities on the PGA Tour
In his return to the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class. After an opening round of +1, the major winner significantly improved by shooting a 68 (-4) on the second day. Three birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey were enough for Koepka to barely make the cut at -3 overall. He said about his start: \”I think I was excited, nervous, and unsure of what to expect yesterday. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose remains the man to beat. Following an outstanding opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were matched by only one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four shots going into the weekend. He can already celebrate a personal milestone after 36 holes, surpassing his previous best 36-hole score of -15 with this -17 result.
