Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open, while Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting his round with a bogey, he remained error-free afterwards. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 catapulted him 57 places ahead, tied for 45th.
Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend. After two rounds, he stands at -4 overall. A challenging stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm. Although Jäger countered with a birdie, another bogey on the back nine resulted in a 75 (+3). He dropped 40 places but safely made the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour
In his PGA Tour comeback, Brooks Koepka displayed his class. Following a +1 first round, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) second round. Three birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey brought his total to -3, barely advancing to the weekend. Koepka commented, “Yesterday I was excited, nervous, and unsure what to expect. Today I felt more normal.”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose remains the benchmark. After an outstanding opening 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with a 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle countered by only one bogey brought his total to -17, extending his lead to four strokes going into the weekend. He already celebrated a personal best after 36 holes with this score, surpassing his previous best of -15.
