Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secures the cut with a strong second round. After an opening 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting with a bogey, he made six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, jumping 57 places forward to a tie for 45th.
Stephan Jäger also made it through to the weekend with a total of -4 after two rounds. A difficult stretch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm, but he responded with a birdie. However, a further setback on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round, dropping him 40 places but keeping him safely within the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka displayed his class in his PGA Tour comeback. Following an opening round of +1, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) in round two, including three birdies, one eagle, and just one bogey, finishing at -3 overall to barely make the weekend. Koepka commented on his start: \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure of what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose remains the man to beat. After a sensational opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were only offset by one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four shots heading into the weekend and already achieved a personal best 36-hole score, surpassing his previous record of -15.
