Stephan Jäger shines with an impressive 65 in the top 5 at the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour. Brooks Koepka struggles in his comeback round.

Stephan Jäger had an excellent start on Thursday at the Farmers Insurance Open of the PGA Tour. Shooting a 65, he landed tied for 5th, staying close to the top. Other Germans had a tougher time. Thomas Rosenmüller scored 2 under par and tied 55th, ahead of Jeremy Paul, who stood at even par tied 87th, and Matti Schmid who was 1 over par tied 101st heading into the second day. Sharing the same score as Matti Schmid is LIV Golf returnee Brooks Koepka, who had some difficulties in his first tournament back on the American Tour. Leading after the first day is Justin Rose at 10 under par.

PGA Tour: Stephan Jäger Nearly Flawless

Stephan Jäger delivered his best start in a long time at the Farmers Insurance Open of the PGA Tour. On the North course at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, he played an almost flawless round, with only the start not going according to plan. At the first hole, his second shot landed in the bunker near the green, resulting in a bogey after failing to get up and down. However, Jäger was not shaken by this. At the 3rd hole, he recovered with a strong tee shot on the 150-meter par 3, resulting in a birdie. He really gained momentum in the middle of his round, scoring three consecutive birdies from holes 7 to 9, finishing 3 under on the front nine. His birdie on the 8th was a highlight: after landing in the greenside bunker, he executed an excellent sand shot that rolled directly into the hole. He carried this momentum into the back nine, starting with two birdies and adding two more on holes 16 and 17, concluding with 7 under par overall, placing him tied 5th going forward.

Thomas Rosenmüller had a steadier round, also starting with his only bogey but recovering to even par on the front nine after a birdie at hole 9. Additional birdies on holes 11 and 17 earned him a 70, placing him tied 55th.

Jeremy Paul began on the back nine; despite birdies and a bogey on the front nine, three bogeys at holes 2, 4, and 6 pushed him back to even par, tied 87th at day’s end.

Matti Schmid also started on the back nine and, despite three birdies, couldn’t finish better than 1 over par due
