Jeremy Paul starts strong at Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Jeremy Paul opened the Butterfield Bermuda Championship with a 69 (-2), while Rosenmüller and Schmid sit in the middle of the pack.

The PGA Tour heads to Bermuda this week for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, where Germany’s Jeremy Paul impressed with a solid opening round of 69 on the par-71 layout. His performance placed him in the top portion of the leaderboard, keeping him in contention heading into the second round. Fellow Germans Thomas Rosenmüller (71) and Matti Schmid (72) had more mixed results and are currently positioned in the middle of the field. Canadian Adam Hadwin leads after a 6-under 65, followed by Japan’s Takumi Kanaya and American Braden Thornberry. Darkness forced a suspension of play for several groups, who will resume their rounds on Friday morning.

Jeremy Paul finds form on PGA Tour

Jeremy Paul has shown steady improvement in recent PGA Tour events after a difficult mid-season stretch. The 31-year-old German started his round with a bogey but quickly rebounded. A birdie on the 11th, thanks to a successful up-and-down from the greenside bunker, brought him back to even par. He then caught fire with three consecutive birdies on holes 16, 17, and 18 to make the turn at 3-under. Paul dropped another shot early on the front nine but responded with a birdie on the 5th. A late bogey on the 8th saw him finish with a 2-under 69, placing him T13 at the time, though many players had yet to complete their rounds.

Mixed results for Rosenmüller and Schmid

Thomas Rosenmüller experienced a rollercoaster first nine holes, starting with a bogey on the 13th after missing the green. He bounced back with a birdie on the 14th but found trouble in bunkers on 15 and 16, leading to two more bogeys. A birdie on 18 helped him finish the back nine at +1. He steadied his game on the front nine, adding just one more birdie on the 7th to close with an even-par 71.

Matti Schmid had a rough start, carding bogeys on holes 1, 4, 5, and 9, offset only by a birdie on the 7th, leaving him at +3 after nine. He recovered on the back nine with birdies on 15 and 17, finishing with a 1-over 72 to stay within reach of the cut line.
