Tight Race for PGA Tour Cards at Butterfield Bermuda Championship

German players remain mid-pack while a tight leaderboard battle unfolds for PGA Tour cards at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. At the top of the leaderboard, six players are within one stroke of the lead, including Adam Schenk and Braden Thornberry, who currently share first place. Both are aiming for a significant jump into the Top 100 of the FedExCup standings — the crucial threshold to secure their PGA Tour cards for the 2026 season. Takumi Kanaya, tied for third, would also narrowly make the Top 100 if the standings hold, while Max McGreevy, currently ranked 100th, could feel more secure if he finishes strong.

Schenk and Kanaya made the biggest moves in Round 3, with the American carding a bogey-free 67 and the Japanese player posting a 66. Thornberry, however, faces the most pressure — only a win will get him into the Top 100. Schenk is also aware of the stakes: “I wish I had done this earlier in the season, then I wouldn’t be in this position, but here we are,” he said after his round.

Germany’s Thomas Rosenmüller would also need a win to break into the Top 100, but currently sits tied for 24th after an eagle on the 17th brought him to one-under-par. However, this position does little to help his FedExCup ranking, as he remains eight shots off the lead.

Matti Schmid, who has already secured his Tour card, improved to T32 with a 69, recovering from a bogey and double bogey on his front nine with two late birdies. Jeremy Paul also moved up to T48 with a 70 after falling back in Round 2.
