Scottie Scheffler Claims 20th PGA Tour Win at American Express

Scottie Scheffler wins his 20th PGA Tour event before turning 30, dominating The American Express with a four-shot lead.

Scottie Scheffler started 2026 as usual: with a victory. He won The American Express on the PGA Tour by four strokes ahead of Jason Day, Ryan Gerard, Matt McCarty and Andrew Putnam tied for second, becoming the second fastest player to reach 20 PGA Tour wins. Scheffler’s 66 in the final round was unmatched as his competitors faltered.

During the final round, Scheffler made a birdie on half of the holes and could have won by an even larger margin if he had not incurred a double bogey on the island green at the 17th hole. Despite this setback, no one could match his 66. Si Woo Kim, the 54-hole leader, struggled in the final round with a 72 and dropped back, and 18-year-old Blades Brown, who had played the Korn Ferry Tour event final on the Bahamas just days before and was tied with Scheffler after three rounds, fell back to a tie for 18th after shooting 74.

Thus, Scheffler begins the year as dominant as ever, marking his 16th consecutive top-ten finish. However, he does not take victories for granted. “There is a reason we have to finish the tournament. You don’t get the trophy on the 16th hole. You have to play the tournament to the end. Today I played in the last group against two very, very talented players. Si Woo has so much talent. He is excellent at golf. I saw Blades for the first time, but anyone who makes the final flight of a PGA Tour event at 18 is doing something right. It is a course where you have to go out and make birdies. So there were many challenges today, but I am proud of how we played and put together a nice round,” Scheffler said.
