Scottie Scheffler wins his 20th PGA Tour event before turning 30, starting 2026 with a dominant victory.
Scottie Scheffler begins 2026 as expected: with a win. He secured The American Express title on the PGA Tour by four strokes over Jason Day, Ryan Gerard, Matt McCarty, and Andrew Putnam tied for second, becoming the second fastest player to reach 20 PGA Tour victories. Scheffler shot a 66 to take the lead while his competitors faltered.
PGA Tour: Scottie Scheffler Dominates The American Express
During the final round, Scheffler made birdies on half of the holes and could have extended his lead if he had not hit his ball into the water on the island green of hole 17, resulting in a double bogey. Nonetheless, his 66 was unmatched. Si Woo Kim, the three-round leader, could not keep pace on Sunday and shot a 72, falling behind. Additionally, 18-year-old Blades Brown, who had played the Korn Ferry Tour final in the Bahamas just days earlier and was tied with Scheffler after three rounds, slipped to a T18 finish after a 74 in the final round.
Starting the new year as dominantly as ever, Scheffler marked his 16th consecutive top-ten finish but does not take victories for granted. “There is a reason why we must finish the tournament. You don’t get the trophy on the 16th hole. You have to play the tournament to the end. Today, I played in the final group against two very, very talented players. Si Woo has so much talent. He is very good at golf. I met Blades for the first time, but any 18-year-old reaching the final flight of a PGA Tour event is doing something right. This is a course where you have to go out and make birdies. There were many challenges today, but I am proud of how we played and the beautiful round we put together.”
