Patrick Reed is set to return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.
Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is moving back from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his PGA Tour membership in 2022 to join LIV Golf, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am pleased to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” He reflects positively on his time at LIV Golf and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I am a different person because of the friendships I made with the players. Family is my priority and playing closer to them is what really matters. I can’t get those days back.”
His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, as he realized how much he missed competing with others.
Return Conditions
From summer, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour states his early return is due to him relinquishing membership in 2022 before any rules violations from participation on other tours occurred. Starting August 25, 2026, he will play PGA Tour events again under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he continues as an honorary lifetime member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.
Similar to the Returning Member Program used by Brooks Koepka, Reed as a former tour member returning to the PGA Tour will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, noting no contract renewal was finalized. They expressed gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club and underlined their support for players to compete “where and when they want,” respecting Reed’s decision.
Other Former LIV Players Returning
Reed’s return is not isolated. Three other former LIV players – Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford – have also regained their PGA Tour memberships but still have outstanding disciplinary matters to resolve.
Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete again starting January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s return date remains under review by the tour.
