Patrick Reed announces his return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, leaving LIV Golf behind alongside other players making the switch.
Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. Having relinquished his membership in 2022 and played on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now accepted an offer to rejoin the PGA Tour.
“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” He views his time at LIV positively and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return to the PGA Tour: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I made with players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters to me. I don’t get any days back.”
His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, reminding him how much he missed competing with others.
Details of the Return
Starting in summer, he will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour explained the early return by noting that Reed had relinquished his membership in 2022 before any rule violations occurred due to participation in other tours. Consequently, from August 25, 2026, he will participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an Honorary Lifetime Member. Entry into FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.
Similar to Brooks Koepka’s return via the Returning Member Program, Reed, as a former tour member coming back, is excluded from participation in the Player Equity Program until 2030.
LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, acknowledging that no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his efforts at the 4Aces Golf Club. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting players in playing “where and when they want” and respected Reed’s decision.
Other Former LIV Players Also Returning
Reed’s comeback is not an isolated case. Movement is underway with three other former LIV players. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have already regained their PGA Tour membership but still must resolve pending disciplinary issues.
Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete again starting January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s exact return timing remains under review by the Tour.
