PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.

Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his way back to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his PGA Tour membership in 2022 to compete on the LIV Golf Tour, Reed has now accepted an offer to return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will be returning to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed spoke positively about his time on LIV, emphasizing the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I’ve formed with players there. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them really matters to me. I don’t get those days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision, making him realize how much he missed competing with others.

Details of Reed’s Return

From summer onwards, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour explained the early return, noting Reed had given up his membership in 2022 before any rule violation by participating in other tours occurred. Reed will be able to compete in PGA Tour events from August 25, 2026, under the Past Champion category. He may improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary lifetime member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualifying or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program, which Brooks Koepka is also using to return, Reed, as a former Tour member, will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, saying no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his contributions to the 4Aces Golf Club. They reiterated their support for players to compete “where and when they want” and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Also Returning

Reed’s return is not isolated. Three other former LIV players, Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford, have already regained their PGA Tour memberships but still have unresolved disciplinary matters. While Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete again from January 1, 2027, the exact return date for Kevin Na remains under review by the Tour.
