PGA Tour Welcomes Major Winner Patrick Reed Back from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed returns to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, departing LIV Golf. Other former LIV players also make the switch.

Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 and playing on the LIV Golf Tour, Reed has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” He views his time at LIV positively and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I made with the players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters. I don’t get those days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also strengthened his decision, as he realized how much he missed competing with others.

Details of the Return

Starting this summer, Reed will be eligible to play as a non-member. The PGA Tour explains the early return by noting that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any violation of rules from participation in other tours had occurred. Reed will participate in PGA Tour tournaments starting August 25, 2026, through the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status via the DP World Tour, where he remains an Honorary Lifetime Member. Participation in the FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

As with the Returning Member Program, which Brooks Koepka is also using to come back, Reed as a former tour member returning to the PGA Tour will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure with a statement, noting that no contract extension was agreed upon. They expressed gratitude for Reed’s efforts with the 4Aces Golf Club and emphasized their stance to support players to compete “where and when they want” while respecting Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Return

Reed’s return is not isolated. Three other former LIV players – Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford – have also regained their PGA Tour memberships but still need to resolve disciplinary matters. While Perez and Swafford will be eligible to compete from January 1, 2027, Kevin Na’s return date remains uncertain as the tour continues to review his case.
