PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, officially leaving LIV Golf. Other former LIV players also make their comeback.

Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his PGA Tour membership in 2022 to join LIV Golf, Reed has now offered his return to the PGA Tour starting the 2027 season.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer compete on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce my return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” He reflects positively on his time with LIV Golf and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I’ve become a different person through the friendships I’ve built with players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters to me. I can’t get any days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision. He realized how much he missed competing against others.

Details of the Return

Starting summer 2026, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour justifies the early return since Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violations related to participation in other tours occurred. From August 25, 2026, Reed will compete in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. Additionally, he may improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an Honorary Lifetime Member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program used by Brooks Koepka, Reed, as a former tour member, will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in an official statement, noting that no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his contributions at the 4Aces Golf Club. They also emphasized their support for players choosing where and when to compete and respect Reed’s decision.

More Former LIV Players Make Their Return

Reed’s comeback is not isolated. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have regained their PGA Tour memberships but must still resolve outstanding disciplinary matters. Perez and Swafford will be eligible to compete starting January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s return date remains under review by the tour.
