PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed returns to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf; other players also switch back.

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 and playing on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered to rejoin the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV positively and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I have made with players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters. I can’t get days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his decision. He realized how much he missed competing against others.

Details of the Return

Starting this summer, Reed will be eligible to play as a non-member. The PGA Tour explains the early return by noting that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violation occurred due to participation in other tours. Thus, starting August 25, 2026, he will participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status via the DP World Tour, where he continues as an honorary lifetime member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program used by Brooks Koepka, Reed, returning as a former Tour member, will be excluded from the Players Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed the departure with a statement that no contract extension was reached but expressed gratitude for Reed’s efforts with the 4Aces Golf Club. They reiterated their support for players to compete where and when they wish and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Also Return

Reed’s return is not isolated. Three other former LIV players are also making moves. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have regained their PGA Tour memberships but still face outstanding disciplinary matters.

Perez and Swafford are allowed to compete from January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s exact return date remains under review by the Tour.
