PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed returns to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players are also making the switch.

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is set to return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 to play on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV Golf positively and highlights the importance of family in his decision to return to the PGA Tour: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I have become a different person through the friendships I’ve formed with the players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them is what truly matters. I can’t get back lost days.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also strengthened his decision. He realized how much he missed competing with others.

Details of the Return

Starting summer, Reed will be eligible to play as a non-member. The PGA Tour explains the early return by noting Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violations occurred due to participation in other tours. Reed will be able to participate again in PGA Tour events from August 25, 2026, under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary lifetime member. Participation in the FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to Brooks Koepka, who returned through the Returning Member Program, Reed, as a former tour member returning to the PGA Tour, will remain excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, saying that a contract extension was not reached but expressed gratitude for Reed’s service to the 4Aces Golf Club. They also emphasized supporting players in playing “where and when they want” and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Return

Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players have also made moves. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have regained their PGA Tour membership but still need to resolve outstanding disciplinary matters.

While Perez and Swafford are allowed to compete again from January 1, 2027, Kevin Na’s exact return date remains uncertain as the tour continues to review his situation.
