PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed returns to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, ending his time with LIV Golf. More players are also making the switch.

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is returning from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 and playing on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered to rejoin the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am pleased to announce that I will return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” Reed views his time at LIV positively and emphasizes the importance of family in his decision to return to the PGA Tour: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf. I’ve become a different person through the friendships I’ve made with other players. Family is my priority, and being closer to them is what truly matters to me. I can’t get days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also strengthened his decision. He realized how much he missed competing with others.

Details of the Return to the PGA Tour

Starting summer, Reed will be eligible as a non-member. The PGA Tour explains the early return by noting that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violation occurred due to playing on other tours. From August 25, 2026, he will participate in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. He may also improve his PGA Tour status via the DP World Tour, where he remains an honorary lifetime member. For the FedEx Cup events in the fall, Reed must qualify or receive sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program, through which Brooks Koepka returns, Reed will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030 as a former tour member rejoining the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure in a statement, saying no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for Reed’s contribution to the 4Aces Golf Club. They emphasized supporting players to play “where and when they want” and respect Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Golf Players Returning

Reed’s return is not isolated. Three other former LIV players—Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford—have regained their PGA Tour memberships but still have disciplinary issues to resolve. Perez and Swafford are set to return to competition on January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s return date remains under review.
