DP World Tour Winner Patrick Reed Has Not Yet Renewed LIV Golf Contract

After his victory in Dubai, Patrick Reed faces a decision as his LIV Golf contract remains unsettled ahead of the Riyadh season opener.

At a press conference following his win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour in the United Arab Emirates, Texan Patrick Reed commented on his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League. Reed has been playing since June 2022 for LIV Golf as part of the 4Aces GC team. When asked if he would participate in LIV Golf’s season opener in early February in Riyadh, he initially said he \”should be ready\” for the next LIV Golf season, prompting further questions at the press event.

LIV Golf Contract Not Yet Renewed

The 35-year-old has yet to renew his contract with LIV Golf and aims to finalize the details with the Saudi league within roughly two weeks, before the opening tournament, the LIV Golf Riyadh presented by ROSHN Group, scheduled from February 4 to 7. \”We’re still working on the contract details,\” Reed said, adding, \”We’re not finished yet.\”

Reed also mentioned that during tournament periods, he prefers not to discuss business matters publicly: \”I don’t like talking business or similar things while I’m playing. So Monday to Wednesday is the only time to talk about that,\” he added. \”When I came here this week, I knew I’d focus only on golf starting Thursday. From tonight and tomorrow, we can talk about other matters again.\”

Patrick Reed: \”I Plan to Play in Riyadh for Now\”

Patrick Reed is also entered for the next DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. The coming days will be crucial for his LIV Golf future. Despite the uncertainty, Reed expects a contract extension: \”I haven’t spoken to my team at home or anything yet,\” Reed said. \”But for now, I plan to play in Riyadh and would be surprised if we don’t.\”

In four seasons with LIV Golf, Reed finished thrice in the top seven of the overall standings and achieved his first individual LIV Golf Tour win last season in Dallas. Simultaneously, he remained active outside the league: last year, he played 18 world ranking tournaments, up from only ten starts outside LIV the prior year. Ten of these events were on the DP World Tour, where Reed holds lifetime membership — despite ongoing fines due to his LIV involvement. Early this week, Reed stated he is willing to pay whatever is necessary to remain active on the DP World Tour.
