Following his Dubai win, Patrick Reed faces a decision as his LIV Golf contract remains unsigned ahead of the Riyadh season opener.
After winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, Texan Patrick Reed addressed his future with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league during a press conference. When asked if he would participate in LIV Golf’s season kickoff in Riyadh in early February, a question he had previously dodged, Reed responded that he ‘should be ready’ for the next LIV Golf season, though further clarification was sought during the press event.
LIV Golf Contract Not Yet Renewed
The 35-year-old confirmed he has not yet extended his contract with LIV Golf and hopes to finalize the details within roughly two weeks before the season opener from February 4 to 7. ‘We are still working on the contract details,’ Reed stated. ‘We are not done yet.’

Reed explained that he prefers not to discuss business matters during tournament play, reserving Monday through Wednesday for such talks. Once the competition begins, his focus shifts solely to golf.
Patrick Reed: ‘Currently Planning to Play in Riyadh’
Reed is also entered in the upcoming DP World Tour event, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Despite the uncertainty, he expects to renew his contract. ‘I haven’t talked with the team at home yet, but at the moment, I plan to play in Riyadh and would be surprised if we don’t,’ he said.
Over four years with LIV Golf, Reed has finished three times in the top seven overall and secured his first individual LIV win last season in Dallas. Simultaneously, he remained active outside LIV, competing in 18 Official World Golf Ranking events last year compared to just 10 the previous year, including ten starts on the DP World Tour, where he holds a lifetime membership despite continuing fines due to his LIV involvement. Reed recently stated he is willing to pay whatever is necessary to remain active on the DP World Tour.
DP World Tour As Possible Route Back to PGA Tour
Following his Hero Dubai Desert Classic victory, Reed climbed back into the top 30 in the world rankings, currently holding 29th place. If he does not return to LIV Golf, Reed sees the DP World Tour as a path back to the PGA Tour. Unlike Brooks Koepka, who is returning to the PGA Tour via a special exemption, Reed cannot easily rejoin due to Masters eligibility rules, as his major win was in 2018 and the PGA’s return pathway requires a major title no later than 202
