Gear Up to Go Low with Under Armour’s Latest Golf Collection

This summer, Under Armour is putting a modern twist on the golf classics with the release of the UA Goin’ Under Golf Collection. The Goin’ Under Collection offers head-to-toe pieces for both men and women that golfers can wear from the course to the clubhouse. In this collection, golfers will hit the green feeling optimistic and inspired to lower their score – because when you look the part, you play the part. Why not make today the day that you ‘go under’ par and play the round of your life?

Image: Under Armour

When designing new releases, Under Armour works closely with its athletes to incorporate their feedback to create performance solutions that meet and exceed their needs. With high-tech hoodies, jackets, and sweaters, this new line offers simple and clean styles that will keep golfers warm during early-morning tee times, while providing lightweight polos and tees to keep them cool as they grind through the hottest rounds.

Under Armour designer: “This accessible collection appeals to golfers of all levels and style preferences”

John O’Connor, Designer, Apparel Graphics at Under Armour: “The sport of golf has evolved tremendously so we knew we needed to evolve with it. We’re excited to bring The Goin’ Under Collection to life and offer bold options for golfers who want to stand out on the course. This accessible collection appeals to golfers of all levels and style preferences, combining quality clothing with modern designs, including the classics and some options with an edge.”

With both male and female golfers in mind, the Goin’ Under Collection features an assortment of polos, tees, skirts and shoes that has golfers covered from head to toe and perfectly complement some of Under Armour’s innovations. This includes Under Armour favorites like the UA Drive Goin’ Under Polo, a modern take on the signature Playoff Polo with a sport bomber collar paired with an abstract course camo print that golfers can dress with the beloved Men’s UA Drive Joggers. The UA Icon Fleece Goin’ Under Crew is fitted to layer with other pieces from the collection and pairs perfectly with the UA Empower Skort, flexible and lightweight to help female golfers feel comfortable with every swing. With a nod to one of the most iconic cinematic references in golf, the collection’s gopher mascot is also displayed across a couple of different tees and hats – perfect for the golfer ready to crush course records and stand out from the pack.

Shoes for all course conditions

The collection also features Phantom Footwear, which was launched as a hero style earlier this season and combines the comfort of a training shoe with the traction and knit upper of a golf shoe. Prompted by the growing popularity of golf, UA took the footwear that players usually wear off the course and used it as the inspiration for creating a golf shoe. The waterproof membrane uppers keep golfers’ feet dry, and ground-hugging traction helps them play through any course conditions.

With bold prints, modern twists, and detailed designs, all eyes will be on golfers when they suit up in the UA Goin’ Under Golf Collection this season. The collection is now live on UA.com and can be found in select UA Brand Houses.

Bernhard Langer is Denied a Golf Cart at the Senior British Open

The US-magazine Golf Digest reported yesterday on the golf cart situation involving five golfers – including Bernhard Langer – at the Senior British Open. In addition to Bernhard Langer, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Tim Herron and Paul Broadhurst also asked for permission to drive a golf cart. All five golfers gave various forms of physical problems as the reason. In the case of Langer, it is known that he is still suffering from pain after tearing his Achilles tendon at the beginning of the year. Of the five requests, only one was ultimately approved by the tournament organizers, that of Tim Herron. The result even led to John Daly withdrawing from the tournament.

Senior British Open: Englishman has to walk despite arthritis

In a statement quoted in the Golf Digest article, the tournament committee explains its procedure as follows: “As per the championship’s rules and terms of entry and participation, competitors can request use of motorized transportation on or before the closing date for entries. The championship committee received five applications which were carefully considered before one was granted to Tim Herron.” According to the article in the sports magazine, the four seniors did not receive a permit because they had competed in at least one tournament on foot within the last year and are therefore classified as fit. Note: The rules for senior tournaments vary depending on the organizer; in this case, the aforementioned rule was the deciding factor. This means that Paul Broadhurst, who is currently suffering from chronic inflammation in his right ankle (arthritis), must also play the Carnoustie Golf Links on foot. Paul Broahurst: “It’s tough. It’s severe arthritis. It is bone on bone. It’s an operation and a year out probably and no guarantee that I’ll be able to play to this level. So I’ve made a decision that if I can get through next season, I will probably call it a day. Monday was the first time I’d walked on a golf course in a year.” The Englishman was also surprised by the decision of the R&A and European Legends Tour, the tournament organizers.

Differences depending on the organizer

On the Champions Tour and at the USGA Senior Championship, however, Broadhurst received permission to drive due to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Nevertheless, he has to walk the rest of the tournament in Carnoustie. The 58-year-old uses a walking stick to help him.

Junior Golfer AJ Ramos Achieves Historic 59 in Arizona

AJ Ramos, a prodigious 14-year-old golfer, has etched an extraordinary chapter in the annals of the Arizona Junior Golf Association (AJGA). Over the past weekend, Ramos achieved an astonishing feat by shooting a round of 59 at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona. This score marks the first instance of such an achievement in the AJGA’s history.

Breakthrough at the Tucson City Junior Championship

It was July 25, 2024, at the Tucson City Junior Championship when young golfer AJ Ramos from Tucson delivered a flawless 59, making it the first of its kind in the tournament’s history.

Held annually at the Randolph Golf Complex, the Tucson City Junior Championship is renowned for attracting talented young golfers from across Arizona. AJ Ramos surpassed all expectations by reaching this historic milestone. With precise shots and outstanding focus, he played an almost perfect game that ultimately led him to this record-setting performance and a new membership in the exclusive 59 Club. Membership in this club is so rare that even players on the PGA Tour or LPGA Tour seldom achieve it.

A Milestone in Junior Golf

The historic moment occurred during the final round of an AJGA tournament. Ramos started his round with a birdie on the first hole and continued his successful streak tirelessly. After nine holes, he was already eight under par. On the back nine, he maintained his impressive performance, finishing the round with an eagle on the 18th hole. His round’s total? Eleven birdies, one eagle, and six pars.

This remarkable achievement not only highlights Ramos’s exceptional talent but also sets a new standard in junior golf, underscoring the bright future that lies ahead for this young golfer.

These Four Golfers are among the Top 100 Most Successful Athletes

Whether Olympic champions, world champions, Grand Slam winners or footballers of the year, the 21st century has seen some incredible achievements from legendary sportsmen and women. In a wide variety of sports, personalities stand out whose successes set them apart from their competitors.

The US television channel ESPN looked back over the last 25 years and published a list of the 100 most successful athletes. ESPN editors from all over the world contributed to the nominations and the voting process. Voters were instructed to only consider an athlete’s accomplishments since 2000. The top 100 includes three male and one female golfer: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Annika Sörenstam and Rory McIlroy.

Most successful athletes of the 21st century: Tiger Woods in the top 10

First and foremost from a golfing perspective is none other than Tiger Woods. His greatest achievements include 13 major victories (the most of any player in this period) and eleven major victories as world number one (nine more than any other player of all time). In total, Woods has won 131 times around the world and has left his mark on golf like no other, and not just with his sporting achievements. He is ranked 8th in ESPN’s rankings, beating the likes of Michael Phelps (1st place, swimming), Serena Williams (2nd place, tennis) and Lionel Messi (3rd place, soccer).

After Woods, the second golfer is some time coming. The second most successful golfer in the ranking is Phil Mickelson in 69th place. Although Mickelson has made negative headlines in recent years, there is no denying the achievements he has previously delivered in golf: With six Major victories and the record as the oldest Major winner of all time at the 2021 PGA Championship (the first Major winner to turn 50), Mickelson played his way into golf history.

Annika Sörenstam as the most successful female golfer

Annika Sörenstam follows in 89th place. With 97 victories around the world, the Swede stands out from most of her rivals. Her tally since the turn of the century includes eight Major wins (the most in that time span) and 54 of her 72 LPGA Tour victories. She is the only woman ever to shoot a 59 in a professional tournament and won eleven times in 2002, the most wins on the LPGA Tour in almost 40 years. The fact that she retired from professional golf in 2008 gives her successes even more significance in terms of the ESPN rankings in the short space of eight years.

Last but not least, Rory McIlroy is ranked 93rd. Although the Northern Irishman has been on a dry spell for ten years in terms of major successes, his other achievements should not be underestimated: He spent 122 weeks at the top of the world rankings with the help of 26 PGA Tour victories (including four majors). McIlroy is “only” one Masters win away from a career Grand Slam to put him on a par with golf legends such as Tiger Woods or Arnold Palmer.

2024 Olympics: These Golfers Will Be the Flag Bearers in Paris

The flag bearers of the countries participating in the Olympic Games have a special honor. They represent their country at the opening ceremony and at the closing ceremony by carrying the respective flag. The flag bearers were either chosen by their respective National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. For two countries, a golfer was chosen: Fabrizio Zanotti and Ines Laklalech. The 41-year-old has been a professional golfer for over 20 years and will carry the Paraguayan flag alongside rower Alejandra Alonso. Ines Laklalech will be the flag bearer for Morocco together with rider Yessin Rahmouni. Laklalech plays on the Ladies European Tour and won the Ladies Open de France in 2022.

Key Role for Fabrizio Zanotti at the 2024 Olympics

The selected athletes will have the honour of presenting their country’s flag twice in front of the whole world. Firstly at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on 26 July 2024 and a second time at the closing ceremony on 11 August 2024. For the first time, there will not be the usual march of the nations into a stadium. The opening ceremony will take place in the centre of Paris and on the Seine with a finale at the Eiffel Tower.

Fabrizio Zanotti is the only golfer from Paraguay to take part in the 2024 Olympic Games. With his participation in 2016 and 2021, he already brings double the experience to the competition. He has also competed in several national and continental championships, has major experience and has won several times on the DP World Tour. He celebrated one of his two victories on the tour in Munich at the BMW International Open.

Ines Laklalech became pro in 2021 after earning her tour card for the LET via the LET Q-School. In her rookie season, she achieved four top 10 finishes before winning in France. This made her the first golfer not only from Morocco but from North America to win on the LET.
